I know the badger is a popular theory, but there are two main reasons I think it doesn’t work.
1. Tickety’s favorite nursery rhyme turned out to be Hickory Dickory Dock, and that story prominently features a mouse.
2. If you watch the scene closely, you will notice that there is a blue paw print on the mouse.

I’m not completely sure how to feel about that, Anon.
On the one hand, it seems like it would be really out-of-character for Steve to leave Blue behind if it wasn’t because he was really going to college.
On the other hand, many fans have pointed out that it’s actually surprisingly hard to fund your education with a hopscotch scholarship.
